Solution

Problem: "Our
operators missed a message which occurred out of hours,
informing them that our cache batteries were nearing end
of life. As a result, when we ran out of battery life,
all the data began writing directly to disk. Had this
happened during operating hours we would have noticed
the system degradation and impact on users, but as it
was late at night, the system crashed. We also lost
critical information as the last data collection was
stored on cache. It was the worst case scenario and must
never happen again."
Solution: This can be
avoided in the future by using cache battery monitoring
in QSystem Monitor. This gives operators a fast means of
checking the battery life on a networked system at any
time. Real-time alerts prompt them via the usual
escalation methods. There is no need to manually check
battery life by entering the sensitive area of system
service tools where someone could accidentally disable a
password which would have big impact network-wide. Map
view means they can easily coordinate an engineer to
replace a number of low batteries in close proximity,
rather than arranging individual site visits for each
battery. Now operators can have an immediate view on all
batteries on all the I/O adapters on all partitions or
systems in a single window that gives them all the
relevant details they need.
